
DeWitt started performing on stage at the age of 13. At 13, Dewitt began appearing on stage. She earned an undergraduate degree from Ball State University. The director advised her to join UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship along with the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While at UCLA she worked as a secretary before making her first appearance on television on an episode of Baretta.Contrary to rumors that she was trained by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has declared that the two actors did not meet. DeWitt is most well-known for her performance in the show Three's Co.'s run between 1977 and 1984 as Janet Wood. This was an opportunity she was offered after being cast in the second pilot. Janet was also featured in an episode of the show The Ropers in the year 1979. DeWitt was the only actor to appear in the series' 1984 finale. Then, she appeared in an episode on Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. Following that she ceased acting for many years. Acting was her first foray back on stage in June of 1991 when she appeared on the Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. Then she appeared on the TV comedy Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain aired an episode in 1997 that featured a character based on her. The voice was performed partially by another actress. She was in the episode of Cybill. [6] She has appeared on shows on TV such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
