Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the US. She has worked as media critic since. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. While a student at university, Sarkeesian became concerned about issues related to gender and rights for women in the early stages. It was a girl with a dream to develop an online series which would explore gender roles in video games. In the end, she ended up being victimized by online harassment. But the assault did be a deterrent, but it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. As a result of the many contributions she has made to feminism, she is the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This non-profit educational organization studies women's roles in pop culture narratives.
