Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the US. She has worked as media critic since. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips featuring commentary and analysis of the representations of women that are prevalent in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded awards for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit site for education that investigates female representations in popular cultural narratives is founded and is directed by Sarkeesian. As well as working to highlight the problems surrounding the harassment and targeted attack on women and as well as other minorities, she is committed to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes associated with popular culture. Sarkeesian has a degree in political thought and social theory from York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public speaking. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. While a student at university, Sarkeesian became concerned about issues related to gender and rights for women in the early stages. It was a girl with a dream to develop an online series which would explore gender roles in video games. In the end, she ended up being victimized by online harassment. But the assault did be a deterrent, but it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. As a result of the many contributions she has made to feminism, she is the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This non-profit educational organization studies women's roles in pop culture narratives.
